Stable User-specific Haptic Rendering of the Virtual Wall

چکیده
E cient control algorithms are developed to implement sti virtual walls without chatter. An analysis of the complete coupled system comprising controller, interface device, and user's nger underlies the design of a wall algorithm, thus each virtual wall is tailored to a speci c user impedance. The nger is modeled as a static second order impedance with justi cation drawn from empirical studies of limb dynamics available in the literature and from observations of the disparity in time scales between contact instability and volitional control. Compensation is incorporated for the destabilizing e ects of the zero order hold using either model based prediction or design in the digital domain. The destabilizing e ects of asynchronous wall on/o switching times and sampling times are tracked by a special watchdog while deadbeat control is used to periodically eliminate these effects. Extensions are discussed, including on-they system identi cation of the user impedance.

M-Width: Stability and Accuracy of Haptic Rendering of Virtual Mass
In many physical human-robot interaction scenarios, such as haptic virtual environments for training and rehabilitation, it is desirable to carefully control the apparent inertia of a robot. Inertia compensation can be used to mitigate forces felt by the user during free-space motion, and rendering of additional inertia is desired for particular rehabilitation and training procedures. Many fact...
متن کاملAn Immersive Granular Material Visualization System with Haptic Feedback
Recent advances in distributed virtual reality systems and haptic technologies provide new opportunities to augment human sense of touch into highly complex and immersive visual simulations. Haptic feedback further enhances human immersion into virtual environments. We present techniques for portable and distributed rendering of real-time active and passive stereo views of virtual granular mate...
متن کاملAliveness: perceived instability from a passive haptic texture rendering system
This paper reports new findings of our ongoing research on perceived instability that human users frequently experience from interacting with virtual textures rendered with a force-feedback haptic interface. Our work is aimed at a better understanding of a new type of perceived instability called “aliveness”, which was discovered during our previous psychophysical experiments performed using a ...
متن کاملReal-time area-based haptic rendering and the augmented tactile display device for a palpation simulator
Although people usually contact a surface with some area rather than a point, most haptic devices allow a user to interact with a virtual object at one point at a time and likewise most haptic rendering algorithms deal with such situations only. In a palpation procedure, medical doctors push and rub the organ’s surface, and are provided the sensation of distributed pressure and contact force (r...
متن کاملConfigurable Design of Multimodal Non Visual Interfaces for 3D VE's
3D virtual environments (VE) require an advanced user interface to fully express their information contents. New I/O devices enable the use of multiple sensorial channels (vision, hearing, touch, etc.) to increase the naturalness and the efficiency of complex interactions. Haptic and acoustic interfaces extend the effective experience of virtual reality to visually impaired users. For these use...
